The biggest fight of 2018 has arrived as Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin clash in a highly-anticipated rematch for Golovkin’s WBA and WBC middleweight titles at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Their first encounter last September ended in a controversial draw after a hard-fought, back-and-forth battle. Judge Adelaide Byrd scored it 118-110 for Alvarez, Dave Moretti had it 115-113 for Golovkin, and Don Trella scored it 114-114. Originally, the rematch was set for May 5, but Alvarez tested positive for clenbuterol, a performance-enhancing drug, in February. The Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) for six months, causing the fight to be postponed and rescheduled.

Since then, tensions have only escalated. Alvarez is frustrated with Golovkin and his trainer Abel Sanchez, who have labeled him a cheater and accused him of not fighting aggressively in their first matchup. Golovkin, on the other hand, feels disrespected, as he believes Alvarez’s failed drug tests cost him a major payday and Alvarez has not taken responsibility for his actions.
